The Federal German Police (Bundespolizei or BPOL) is the national and principal federal law enforcement agency of the German Federal Government, being subordinate to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community. The German police gear is not very different from every other police gear. However they have their own equipment unique features that make up their police gear.

Police patrol Vehicle.

German police only use cars from German manufacturers. Manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Audi, Opel and BMW are commonly used as patrol vehicles. States including Germany used to prefer vehicles built in or close to their state.

However, most states now lease rather than buying their vehicles. This is also due to the European Union rules on contract bidding, such that Germany now have less freewill in choosing which manufacturer will provide their patrol cars than they used to.

Police Uniform/ Colors

A state police Uniform is a very important and indispensable part of her police gear. The uniform must also be universally recognized. This made the German police force, in an effort to conform to the European Union standards, to have gradually been changing and evolving from their traditional forest green to dark blue for uniforms and blue and silver police vehicles

Historically, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, both green and blue police uniforms were used in various parts of German-speaking Europe. Hessian “Landhusaren” police wore light-blue uniforms from 1763 to 1804. In Hanover the royal “Landgendarmerie,” founded in 1815, wore green tops with blue trousers. Berlin police wore dark blue uniforms until 1914
